No Arms, No Deals, With the JUNTA!

No Arms, No Deals, With the JUNTA!

Those were the exact words I saw on a board on the 15th of October 2007 just outside the Singapore’s very own White House :) , The Istana. A one man demonstration against something that I didn’t know about! I was so curious what it was so…just like a typical Computing Student, I googled it. :D Yeah!

Found out some interesting topics on Junta. Wikipedia has a few reference on it. But that didnt answer my question, what is Singapore’s connection with the JUNTA. Who the hell are they and what did our government do wrong? So I continued to google it and found some interesting topics that’s already discussed online. Apparently the Junta refered here are Myanmar’s Miltants.

I read a few posts online and would like to highlight 3 of them.
The online citizen: http://theonlinecitizen.com/2007/09/29/singapores-debt-of-honour/
Singapore Kopi Talk: http://singaporekopitok.blogspot.com/
The Abitsu: http://www.abitsu.org/?p=300

All the sites above makes Singapore’s Goverment look bad. But sometimes I feel that most people out there just like to complain about their government. They are simply never happy with what they have. Singapore Kopi Talk mentioned Singapore’s Government are having mixed thoughts. I say Singapore’s Government are trying their best to help.

Everyone keeps saying that providing arms and ammunition to Myanmar is what caused their people to be living in poverty. Are you guys listening to yourselves??? Imagine Myanmar not having anything to protect themselves. Then every other country who claims to be of Super Power will INVADE them for their resources! What Singapore has done is good. But what the Myanmar Juntas are doing is abusing power and authority.

Singapore does business and of course hope that there won’t be blood shed. What do you want Singapore to do? Invade Myanmar and try to restore the country? Like how United Stated did to Iraq? Finally Singaporeans get to see some real action right? Arresting the SDP for their demonstration is to maintain the Peace that we are enjoying right now in Singapore. “SDP” is another political party, they’ll always try to make “PAP”, the ruling political party, look bad.

We shouldn’t confuse ourselves with comments and critics by the opposition. We should think for a bit in a different perspective. Imagine this. A stationary sells pen-knives to teenagers. These teenagers use these pen-knives to hurt themselves, making “beautiful” scars on their wrists, arms and legs and sometimes even commit suicide.

So are the stationary shops to blame for the crazy things these teenagers do? Think about it. Can we prevent the teenagers from abusing themselves if the Shops stops selling the pen-knives to them? Same goes here. Can Singapore stop the Junta’s from abusing their people?
