I had been using CPanel for the past 6 years and had seen many face-lifts done on each upgrade. I would definitely say that CPanel had been great all these years though it took quite sometime to load. And loading time really pisses me when I have to wait for more than 2 minutes to view my DNS stuffs!
And you’ve guessed it! I Googled to look for a better Platform!
But I was let down for I did not find any solid answers. Directadmin (DA) seemed to be a hot favourite to many which kinda surprised me as I always thought that CPanel’s only competitor is Plesk.
Well, I didn’t want to spend so much money on a panel so I decided to look for an Open Source Platform. Then I found out about LxAdmin. From the creators of HyperVM.
Well enough said. I tried the demo for DirectAdmin and just like the reviews, it looks good and does what it is suppose to do. However, i feel that it wasn’t as feature rich as CPanel.
So since LxLabs boasted many wonderful features on LxAdmin and that it saves the most memory compared with other panels, I decided to give it a shot. Honestly, I feel that it needs a major face lift. It doesn’t look good at all. The tabs reminds me of my school project that I did in the year 1999! But it serves its purpose.
LxAdmin has all the features that I need and the best part is it comes with a built in “One Click Install” feature called ‘InstallApp’. For CPanel users, you would be familiar with the term Fantastico. But what I like most about LxAdmin is that, now I don’t need to mess my config files anymore. Everything can be done via the panel. Here is a glimpse of what you will see in LxAdmin.

There are many other features that you can’t see from this image, but it shows you the InstallApp and a couple of the config options.
Rewrite rule can be added for the domain easily too!!!
Convenience is there. I took quite a while to get familiar with LxAdmin but hey it’s not their fault that I was using CPanel for years. I like LxAdmin though it still is not perfected. Since it is free and the support forum seems to be quite efficient, I believe that LxAdmin may have a shot on taking over CPanel sometime in the near future. ![]()

You are absolutely right, I have just shifted to a VPS with LxAdmin mainly motivated by the minimum memory usage and I can say I am very happy with it as a noob. The fact is, I never used cPanel before (or very little) so that wasn’t an issue but I still think the interface is the weakest point in LxAdmin you never know where you are and how you got there, you need to re read all the stuff to find the tool you are looking for.
