Just imagine this. What will be the most probable outcome from these 3 different Scenarios?
1) A Killer Armed with Knife VS Unarmed Officer
2) A Killer Armed with Knife VS Officer holding T-Baton
3) A Killer Armed with Knife VS An Officer Armed with a Revolver
For the first scenario, a Man with rage charging at the Police officer. I doubt a common Officer could do much unless he is a Commando that underwent a death defying training for years. Why does everyone keep saying Police Officers are well trained at unarmed tactics when we all know that after leaving the academy, they don’t get a chance to put what they learned to good use since Singapore was a LOW CRIME rate country?
For the 2nd Scenario, there is a 50-50 chance of survival for the officer. As a knife is made to cut while the T-Baton is more of a display for many officers since the SPF do not allow the practice of T-Baton on their personal time without Supervision. Anyway, the gun was already drawn out when the warning was given. So to throw away the gun and to take the T-Baton after that will just put the officer at higher risk and madness.
For the 3rd Scenario. BANG! When the Threat, in this case the Man with the Knife, has the Ability AND Opportunity to put anyone’s life (Including the Officer’s own life!) in Jeopardy. A-O-J Rule taught and is still in practice by the Police.
It’s easy to say all of them are trained but how many of the officers get to practice what they learned in the academy every day? Besides the trainers themselves of course. As I know, that man that was shot was charging with a Knife towards the officer. As his life was in JEOPARDY, he is justified to shoot the attacker.
Don’t get carried away with movies that shows the Heroes being able to disarm 20 men single handedly. That’s not life. That’s NOT real!
Praying for SAFE Singapore,

Hell, just shoot to kill. Don’t injure coz he’ll turn around and bite your ass with a lawsuit.
