Is it Halal enough?
I can’t help but to blog about the issue on “Halal-ness” of an eatery after what I’ve read.
I am sorry for those who think that I am being a busybody but since the so called private debate was public, I believe I am entitled to my own personal view. As you guys mentioned at the end of the debate,
“To each his own”.
The argument is about how Halal is an eatery and if is wrong, or should I say forbidden, for a Muslim to eat and drink at a place he or she feels “Was-Was” or doubtful about the “Halal-ness” of the eatery.
There were 2 Singaporean Muslim friends that went on a trip to Bangkok, Thailand and ran into a couple of “Was-Was” circumstances when it comes to having their daily meals. Both obviously have different ideas on what is Halal for consumption on their trip.
Bear in mind of the following questions, because the argument was totally based on the following questions.
Question 1: If a restaurant guarantees the food to be Halal (with a Certification) but sells Alcoholic drinks to accommodate the tourists and uses the same cups for all the drinks, is the restaurant still Halal?
Question 2: If you are at a KFC in Thailand which doesn’t have any Halal certification displayed in the restaurant but doesn’t sell any Alcoholic drinks and you are used to the Halal KFC in Singapore, is it ok to assume that it is Halal?
What makes any meat Halal? The way it was prepared, whether it was slaughtered following the codes of Islamic practices and whether it falls under the consumable of the Islamic dietary law. For example, pigs will never be Halal even if it was prepared and slaughtered in the Islamic way.
Now coming back to Question 1, I don’t care what others say but logically to me, it is Halal to eat there if there is a bloody HALAL sign! Don’t tell me you are “Was-Was” because the restaurant sells beer man! They bloody use alcohol as detergent sometimes! If you’ve washed the cups and filled it up with coke or hot chocolate, it’s just coke or hot chocolate in the bloody cups! Stop being paranoid about getting drunk over hot chocolate that was poured in a cup that was used to serve beer or champagne!
Don’t you realize that most Hotels in Malaysia, a Muslim country, serve Halal food in the Hotel restaurant but also offer a fine selection of Hard Imported Alcoholic drinks???
If they have guaranteed that it is Halal but served non-Halal edibles and you believe that Allah and his words are real, then the MOFO will get retribution on judgement day!
As for Question 2; do not ever eat anything you are doubtful of. It is simple to understand isn’t it? You are wrong to force or make fun of another who was feeling “Was-Was” about the food that is in front of him when you could not prove to him at that point of time that the food served there was Halal. Therefore at that point of time when you were at the Thai KFC with no Halal sign and was in doubt, the food you ate was not Halal.
If you are “Was-Was” about your food even though it is Halal, you are just cheating yourself. Like eating mock meat for example? No offence to the Vegans out there, but seriously who are you trying to kid? Eating fake meat that tastes like meat is suppose to be ok??? The MOFOs who made that fake meat had eaten all the REAL meat to acquire the correct taste first, didn’t they? You might as well eat real meat for the authentic and exquisite taste!
Sorry for the side track. Now back to the Halal issue.
And to top it off, if you guys agreed that you should not be so fussy about finding Halal food in a land where there ain’t many Halal food in the first place, you shouldn’t be quarrelling about this at all. Whether or not it is more Halal than the other? You should be able to accept eating at any of the outlets because you guys don’t know how genuinely Halal are any of the restaurants there.
There is NO SUCH THING as more Halal than the other. There is only Halal and Non-Halal. Get that in your minds first. If you are still unsure, visit the nearest Mosque in your area and get some free advices from those with better knowledge in the practices of Islam, well at least in that denomination.
Drinking Cow’s Milk without a Halal sign,
Deen Yusoff
How the **** can Cow’s milk be Not-Halal if it comes straight from the tits of the Cow??? Wait a minute, you don’t suppose that they are packed in recycled beer bottles, are they?

I have a friend that refuses to eat Japanese cuisine with me (sushi, sashimi, seafood stuff), but he dines at Subway.
Things like this leave me speechless -_- ..!..
goodness! this is an interesting topic. haha.. tsk tsk tsk..
Khairul:
Maybe your friend is allergic or feels “eeky” eating seafood or raw food? I’m not a fan of sushi myself but will tag along if everyone wants it. Lol!
Subway surprisingly uses Halal chicken provided by Sa’diah but sells pork. They use the same gloves and utensils to serve you though.
Cha:
Interesting yeah? Would you believe me if I tell you Alcohol aren’t Haram unless you get intoxicated with them?

I knew we were on the same wavelength! Heh. That’s why I don’t effing get it, eat Subway yang dah kena pork bits/sauce, but can’t eat sushi or say seafood at a chinese seafood restaurant.
If people bitch about not being able to find halal food when they travel, they have 2 options. Bring their own Maggi Mee or travel in Muslim majority countries.
In Thailand, you’d be surprised to see how many Muslim restaurants there are, especially in the commercial cities such as Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket etc..
Point to note about the level of Muslim faith there though, there was this lady in Bangkok who asked me why i didn’t eat pork and i replied i was Muslim. She quickly exclaimed, ‘I’m Muslim too! But i eat pork..”
Lol…

We’ve developed an iPhone app called Halal Scanner which takes a photo of ingredients on food products and determines the halal status of the food additives contained in the product.
